Chess Match is an American electronic project formed in 2012 by artist, director, producer, & actor, Max Dillinger. He was born in Long Beach, CA and currently lives in Battle Creek, MI.

Max got his first electronic drum set in 1993 and began recording electronic music initially around the year 1997 at the age of 12 years old. He has recorded under various names and projects ever since. Max has acted in and directed several independent films and has been a member of various nationally touring rock bands. He is currently the co-owner of Oddtronic and directs / stars as Billy Klondike in the indie comedy film, Pizza Dude. His favorite artists have been cited as Boards of Canada, Joy Elevtric, The KLF, The Chemical Brothers, & Lone.

The debut EP, Plastic Paradise, was released digitally (iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, etc.) on 07/28/14. It was then later released on ltd. CD & ltd. 7″ lathe cuts on 08/20/14 via Space Station Ltd. Two music videos were released in connection to the album for the songs “Orbit & “Last Rodeo.” Both videos were directed and edited by Max Dillinger. “Last Rodeo” features professional skateboarding by DJ Brown & Cody Lonchar, with all of the skate footage being filmed exclusively by Max.

On 09/27/14, Chess Match announced that he would be participating in the 2nd Annual International Cassette Store Day (presented by Burger Records) and saw press coverage from Rolling Stone, Billboard, Alternative Press, Spin, NME, Brooklyn Vegan, Punknews, Absolutepunk, and many more.

Soon after the release, Chess Match went straight to work on his debut full length album. Fragmented Reality was released digitally on May 26, 2015 via Space Station Ltd. along with the music video for “Barriers.” In July, 2015, it was announced that Chess Match would be participating in the International Cassette Store Day for the second-year-in-a-row. Fragmented Reality was released on cassette on October 17th and saw press coverage from Rolling Stone, Exclaim, BrooklynVegan, and others.

On July 31, 2015, Chess Match released a single entitled “Blue Moon.” It was a free download of an all-new song that was recorded live. A live performance video was also released at the same time.

It has been announced that his new album will be titled, ‘Overview Effect.’ He has also announced that he is working on the soundtrack for Pizza Dude.
