Chess Match is the American electronic project formed in 2011 by artist, director, & actor, Max Dillinger. He was born in Long Beach, CA and currently lives in Battle Creek, MI.

Chess Match began creating electronic music initially around the year 2001 and has recorded under various names and projects ever since. Max has acted in and directed several independent films and has been a member of various nationally touring rock bands. After building up dozens of songs, compositions, sound experiments, and demos, he released his first song under the “Chess Match” name in March, 2011. It was a remix for the song “Muzzy” by rapper, GDP. Max created all of the synth textures and drum beats from scratch.

Later in May, 2012, he was commissioned to compose all of the original music for the independent horror film, ERASERS II. He later starred in the short indie comedy film, Bonus Stash, in June, 2012, which also included a soundtrack featuring GDP. Chess Match began to work on his debut EP soon after the release of that film.

Plastic Paradise EP was released Digitally (iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play, etc.) on 7/28/14 and on 8/20/14 via CD & ltd. 7″ lathe cuts via Space Station Ltd. Two music videos were released for the songs “Orbit & “Last Rodeo.” Both videos were directed and edited by Max Dillinger with “Last Rodeo” featuring professional skateboarding by DJ Brown & Cody Lonchar. All of the skate footage was shot by Max, as well.

On 09/27/14, Chess Match participated with the International Cassette Store Day (presented by Burger Records) and saw press coverage from Rolling Stone, Billboard, Alternative Press, Spin, NME, Brooklyn Vegan, Punknews, Absolutepunk, and many more.

Chess Match’s debut LP, Fragmented Reality, was released digitally on 05/26/15 via Space Station Ltd. and released the music video for the song “Barriers.” In July, 2015, it was announced that Chess Match would be participating in International Cassette Store Day for the second-year-in-a-row and that he would be releasing Fragmented Reality on October 17th.
